Poet, performer, pundit and preacher rolled into one, David Newland is an old-fashioned folk singer who’s made himself at home in the modern world.
Born in Ottawa in 1969, David grew up in rural Parry Sound, Ontario with roots in Toronto and the Maritimes, and has travelled widely all over the world. He has spent most of his life developing a vision he calls “Zen Canadiana” in songs, stories, poems, and pictures.
David's trademark sound is a husky vocal supported by roots-rock guitar rhythms, but he seasons his shows liberally with sweet memorable melodies, folk-funk fusion, baritone ballads, cowboy songs and "silly little ditties."
The tools of his trade include a slew of guitars, harmonicas, banjo and a growing collection of pesky ukuleles - popular with both kids and adults!
David wrote the theme song for the CTV railway documentary “Canada’s Greatest Ride” and won "Best Music" at the Waterwalker Film Fest for "Faster Than You Know." A respected podcaster, producer and presenter, David has been the MC of the Gordon Lightfoot tribute "The Way We Feel" for four years.
David’s second CD, “Roll Away” was released in 2005 on the Shelter Valley label.
