The McFlies uncover the 80's, one song at a time

"An 80's band, man, but 100% acoustic!
The accordion and fiddle replace synth's.
And hand drums - no kit, no machines.
It's make everything we love about the 80's, but ORGANIC.
We become your ULTIMATE PARTY BAND"

David Newland is a closer.
We scored Alex and were jamming in no time.
A few weeks into it, Dave shows up with Jay and a name for the band. Today the McFlies make decisions collectively - but if there's a story to unfold, David owns the movie rights and gets full credit for casting.

A year of weekly rehearsals at Toronto's Brewery Lofts and this thing is working. The room we use is comfortable and resonant and it allows us to practise 100% unamplified.

Recently we recorded at Metalworks. We went in to produce tracks as a calling card for promoters, PR and for event organizers. We came out with 8 songs, each one a full take start-to-finish without a single overdub or edit.

Metalworks came together thanks to two guys we like to think of as members of the band. In the world of sound and video production, CTV's Michael Nunan and Andi Charal are two of the most respected - and we're fortunate to have caught their attention.

Get this: in addition to the tremendous stereo mixes you can sample here, we have have mixes for each track in 5.1 surround audio. You can count the number of artists who get to record this way on your toes.

The McFlies were conceived for 5.1. We rehearse in a circle, and that's how Mike recorded us. The secret weapon was this spacey orb-like gizmo. The Holophone is an awesome Canadian innovation - a 3D mic that literally sends every sound around it over 6 panable channels that will put your voice anywhere you want within a 360˚ mixing field. Michael added vocal and instrumental mics for total control and recorded and mixed us live off the floor.

We're really pumped by this first studio experience. It set the bar.
Weird. Feels like we might be on to something.
